VASHIM (Vannamei Shrimp Intelligent Monitoring) is part of the Industry 4.0 Pilot Project initiative led by ASIME, which is part of the Factory 4.0 Pilot Project Awards and Grants program of IGAPE and co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund under the ERDF GALICIA 2014-2020 operational program, in the field of Sensoric technology and BigData.

The project consists of the development of equipment for remote monitoring of physical and chemical variables (temperature, salinity, turbidity, dissolved oxygen and pH) that directly influence shrimp farming in fish farms.

VASHIM offers a viable and economical solution through the use of nanosensorics and Big Data treatment (saving in the total costs of the farming process by 20%) that allows to have historical, measuring remotely and in real time, and offers a complete advice through a virtual platform that provides the user with a customized solution to improve the product that contributes to predict and prevent diseases in shrimp populations.

The use of nanotechnology-optimized sensor technology offers the following advantages over existing sensors:
– Increased receptor specificity for the selected chemical species, eliminating any interference from the shrimp culture environment.
– Decreased sensor degradation due to the presence of microorganisms in the water or other organic matter, since the material where the nanoparticles will be supported will be “anti-fouling”.

The qualitative leap that the company intends to make by implementing nanosensorics in its monitoring equipment and processing the large amount of data obtained will represent an important competitive advantage over the products and equipment currently available on the market.

These technologies can make a difference in the business sector, offering new levels of innovation and competitiveness, and positioning themselves as a differentiating element.
